Five Star Maps History
Tom and Freida Loggins began in the map business in the late 1980’s working for Map Supply Inc., located in Lexington North Carolina. At this time Map Supply Inc. was owned and operated by Arless Loggins, Tom’s dad. In 1990 Tom and Freida moved to Texas to open a branch of this same business. In 1993 they bought out the Texas branch from Arless and he sold the North Carolina division to another individual.
Tom and Freida began making their own brand of maps in 1996 and hired some employees from H.M. Gousha, a Texas based company which had been bought out by Rand McNally. The map production was operated under an assumed name and eventually in 2001 the company took on the permanent name, Five Star Maps, Inc.
They diligently worked at this operation in Texas for the next 15 years currently having over 100 titles in print. In 2011, they decided to move the operation back to North Carolina. They continued to work from Lexington, North Carolina until late 2020 at which time they sold their business to Guy Johnson of G. M. Johnson & Associates Ltd. (GM Johnson Maps). Five Star Maps and GM Johnson have been doing business since 2004.
