In the past year are maps have been in TV shows and on TV News. In December 2023 we were interviewed by Cleveland Ohio ABC Channel 5 News.

GM Johnson now maintains 4 cartographic styles for our state maps. The following clips are from our state maps. The first one is Global Graphics Maps cartography (California). The second one is GM Johnson Maps cartography (Iowa). The third one is Five Star Maps cartography (Georgia). The fourth one is Lucidmap cartography (Michigan).
How did this happen?
Back in November of 2016, a presentation was made by Guy Johnson our President at an International Map Industry Association (IMIA) conference. Guy’s talk was on collaboration. The following link is our news piece from that conference.

The theme was “In this time of the changing model of map publishing, collaboration is a way to be more efficient. Why do we need to re make a map that is already available? Whether you are a publisher, data provider, printer or cartographer we should try to work together to accomplish the goals of our respective companies.”
Well in the last few years GM Johnson has used this model to expand the maps we can offer to our existing and new customers.
In 2018-2019 we collaborated with Lucidmap Inc. to produce 46 city and regional maps of Canada. In addition we produced a couple of City Street Map Books and a series of Provincial maps. Lucidmap used to be MapMobility Corp. and before that they were the cartographic supplier to Map Art. Lucidmap uses a double line road style with the street name encased in the road. The maps have a European cartographic influence.
In 2019 we purchased the assets of Global Graphics Maps. These maps are predominately covering California. Some of the maps have a European cartographic style and influence.
In 2020 we purchased the assets of Five Star Maps. These maps cover a wide area from California to Maine. Most of the maps have a H.M. Gousha Map cartographic style and influence.
In 2021 we purchased Lucidmap cartography of certain USA state and sectional maps. This allowed us to fill in some missing states that we did not have from GM Johnson, Global Graphics and Five Star Maps cartographic libraries.
Now in 2023 we only have the state of New Jersey left to complete our USA cartography.
In 2024 we should have the state cartographic library complete. In the next few years you might see a convergence of state cartographic styles. On select maps you might see multiple cartographic styles. We are trying to standardize the size of all our state maps to fit a 27.25” x 39.50” sheet size. Will we standardize a cartographic style? That is to be determined.
- Canada and USA Sectional maps.
We are ready to publish 7 sectional maps of Canada and USA based on Lucidmap cartographic style. The scale of these maps is approximately 1:2,000,000 with New England being a larger scale. These maps are scheduled to be in stock for the 2nd quarter of 2024. The following is a sample cover.

Over the next following years we will be producing new California map titles. These complement our regional maps of San Francisco Bay Area, San Francisco Streets & Vicinity and Los Angeles & San Diego Vicinity maps.
The first sectional map will be Southern California available first quarter 2024.
The California Sectional maps are mapped at a scale of 1:570,000 or 1 inch to 9 miles approximately. The Regional maps are mapped at a scale of 1:192,000 or 1 inch to 3 miles approximately. These will become available starting early 2024 and last one coming out in 2030.

GM Johnson Maps (GMJ) news: In 2022 we completed all of the major cities in the United States and Canada. GM Johnson in 2022-2023 published a total 56 new map titles.
Our goal for 2023 was to have all the states mapped. In 2022, we only had to complete Alaska, Hawaii, Delaware / Maryland combo, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. In 2023 Alaska – Yukon and Northwest Territories (GMJ brand), Michigan (GMJ brand) and New York (FS brand) were published.
In 2024 Delaware – Maryland (FS brand), Hawaii (GG brand), New Jersey (FS brand) and Pennsylvania / New Jersey (FS brand) will be published.

In August 2022, GM Johnson opened a branch office in Calgary Alberta. Clint Johnson and George Ketchum are based out of this location.
Five Star Maps (FS) news: In 2022 – 2023 we rebranded a couple of GM Johnson Maps to Five Star Maps. For example Austin TX, Plano / Denton / Northern Dallas Suburbs TX and El Paso TX were rebranded, along with new titles of Baton Rouge LA, Fayetteville / Bentonville AR and Little Rock AR.
Rebranding is when we use GM Johnson street cartographic style and custom mapping technology. We then use a Five Star Map cover.
Some of the larger Texas city street maps that Five Star used to make, we have revived utilizing GM Johnson cartography. For example Dallas TX, Houston TX and San Antonio TX street maps. Again these are branded as Five Star Maps.
Global Graphic Maps (GG) news: In 2022 we built a new map of North San Diego County / Oceanside CA using GM Johnson cartography. We rebranded GM Johnson’s map of Santa Barbara CA to be a Global Graphics cover. We will also be rebranding other titles for Bakersfield, San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Visalia-Tulare-Hanford CA maps in 2024.
